I have always loved purple (even when it was the colour of my school uniform) so of course I love amethyst, here is a little bit about February's birthstone.
Amethyst is a variety of quartz and until the 19th Century it was as expensive as ruby and emerald, large deposits were discovered in Bazil and now it is more plentiful and happily more affordable. Available in a range of colours from deep purple to more pastel hues it's a good choice for rings due to its durability and looks just as good in silver as it does in gold.
Above; A few of the amethysts currently availabe for commissons, if you'd like to see more get in touch to arrange a virtual consultation.
I also love mixing gold and silver in one piece and this works really well with amethyst rings (see photos below) Of course this has the benefit of being more affordable than an all gold ring which is great but that's not the main reason I mix metals in my work, I do it becaue I think it looks amazing!
